Mike Rabb '68 went to
Nepal for five months to work with Habitat for Humanity to
bring basic housing and shelter to some of the poorest people
on the planet. As Mike's classmates, we are proud of his dedication
and willingness to jump in feet first
to do something in person. So we decided to support Mike’s
efforts financially.
We learned that
Habitat working with Nepali families can build a basic bamboo
home with a $300 donation. As a result, we challenged our
DU 1968 classmates to raise $2,100 by Christmas to help Mike
build seven new houses and they did!
Thanks
to all the brothers who participated in that successful
effort: Alex
Watson, Bill Wolcott, Bob Coleman, Charles Hupfer, Dave Watkinson,
Dick Rose '69, Dwight Allen, Fred Atkins '67, Howard Warren,
Jake Elig, James Clark, John Nemeth, Joseph Ely, Mike Rabb,
Smith Freeman, and anonymous!
Now Fred Atkins '67 has
challanged his classmates to join the effort. If you want to
help, send a check for "Habitat for Humanity International-Nepal" to
Mike Rabb's Colorado address: 2002 18th Street,
Boulder CO 80302.
FYI, the money won't be
used for "administrative" expenses or fund raising.
In fact, we will know the exact houses/ families receiving
the funding support. As you probably know, Habitat's program
is not based on just giving money as charity to individuals.
Habitat family-partners have to contribute by getting a loan
and paying it back, as well as participating in
the construction of their own house.
